Accommodation

Birds’ Nest is suitable for anyone seeking a cosy little bolthole, but we’ve made some discrete adaptations to make life a bit easier for guests who like to keep things simple, or who just appreciate a few extra tweaks for extra safety and comfort.

Please take a look at our Accessibility Page for more detail.

Accommodation is studio-style, open plan and all on one level. The thick, stone walls keep it cosy in winter and cool in summer, but there’s a log burner too, in case of very chilly evenings.

The kitchen is small, in keeping with the property. Although well-equipped, with 2 induction-rings; microwave with a grill; Ninja dual air-fryer; slow-cooker; blender and large fridge-freezer, it is perhaps best suited for guests who intend to be out and about during the day and use the facilities at Birds’ Nest for preparing breakfasts, snacks and simple meals because due to its size, workspace is limited.

A custom-made pine dresser holds all you need for breakfast: a toaster, coffee machine, tea-pot, bowls and mugs. Complementary, loose-leaf teas from The Rare Tea Company and coffee pods from the Eden Project are supplied to give you a choice of welcome drinks and we also have Fair Trade flavoured syrups and a hot chocolate maker / milk-frother.

A bistro-style dining table and high stools by the window provide a peak at the sea and the occasional view of browsing deer. We do supply lap-trays too, for those who prefer to eat on their knees and watch the large TV from the sofa.

The sleeping area flows on from the living area, with a super-king-sized bed, bedside cabinets and a small, lockable bench for valuables.

The bathroom opens directly from the sleeping area, with a commercial-grade non-slip floor and a walk-in shower with seat and grab-rails. Complementary hand wash, shower gel, shampoo and conditioner by Duck Island are provided, as are a bath towel, hand towel and face-cloth per guest.

Dogs
We welcome dogs of all shapes and sizes, as long as they are well-behaved and able to follow a few basic rules. Dogs must be clean and dry before entering the main body of the cottage: there is an outside tap and room in the porch for drying-off. There are a few dog towels in the wardrobe in case you forget yours. Dogs are not allowed on any of the furniture. If you are not certain your dog will agree to this rule, it is your responsibility to bring suitably thick throws and ensure furniture is not soiled or damaged.

Dogs must not be left unattended in the cottage at any time.

There is a box of emergency supplies in the cottage, including a long-line, bags, dog first-aid kit, shampoo and treats. Please replace anything you use.

There is no access at present to the land at the rear of the cottage, although this will be rectified in early 2025, so that there is a safe, fenced area for your dog. Please ask for an update before booking.

Despite the limitations, many dogs have enjoyed fantastic holidays at Birds’ Nest thanks to its proximity to the beach and lots of lovely walks.

Outside
7 steps lead to a wooden viewing platform with wonderful views out to sea. A BBQ is available to borrow.

Parking can be alongside the cottage itself, which is our own private space, or in the car park immediately outside, which is shared with the 2 adjacent properties.
